Principles of Surgical Therapy
Successful surgical therapy involves, in addition to mere manual skill, years of experience in knowing the correct indication (whether to prefer surgery over conservative therapy) as well as recognizing and managing possible postoperative complications.
Optimal care of the patient to be treated surgically or who has already undergone surgery can only be achieved through the perfect combination of surgical expertise with knowledge of the current and constantly evolving standards of surgery (state-of-the-art) and knowledge of the need for interdisciplinary cooperation with other specialties.
Only the combination of manual dexterity, sound academic knowledge with empathy towards the patient and all staff will enable successful surgical practice.
